Matt Harvey apologizes for painful radio interview
After a painful Tuesday interview spent deflecting questions about his elbow injury to shill for Qualcomm, Mets ace Matt Harvey returned to the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday to make amends. He apologized repeatedly, saying he was "flustered" because he was en route to see the doctor.
"I was thinking about it all day," Harvey said. "The interview I gave you was completely awkward. That's not the person that I am."
This time around, Harvey went into more details on his elbow injury and his decision to try to avoid Tommy John surgery, explaining that he didn't feel the type of pain typically associated with UCL tears and that he understands the risk of pitching through the injury.
Dan Patrick seemed much, much happier.
Harvey even took to Twitter to apologize for the original interview.

Apologies for awful media appearances never resonate the same way the originals do -- this post is almost certain to see way less traffic than the one recapping Harvey's interview on Tuesday. But Harvey sounded earnest in his efforts to save face with Patrick and the public, and to his credit, this can't have been an easy week.
Here's a guy who dominated Major League Baseball in his first full season, then -- right as he was skyrocketing into super-stardom -- got the awful news that he might have to miss all of 2014. He still says he expects to pitch, but you can't blame him if there was a lot on his mind Wednesday and he didn't really want to talk about his injury anymore.
Of course, if he wasn't in the mood to talk, he probably shouldn't have agreed to the interview. But presumably Harvey knows that now.
