Bridgestone is considering introducing glow-in-the-dark tyres for Singapore’s night race.
There are a number of different configurations being looked into, but will probably include the sidewalls and grooves being coated in florescent paint which is simple to apply.
They will produce a silver glow which will help drivers to see the car in front and TV viewers to identify the tyre compound.
It’s a concept that’s already been used in Le Mans, and my Bridgestone source tells me an F1 version will be straightforward: ‘It doesn’t require any advance testing. We’ll have to run it past the FIA of course, but we have quite a lot of freedom. It would look really cool, so it’s something we’re looking into.’
