Shanghai based artist Yi Hong created an incredible portrait of Chinese NBA star Yao Ming using just a bucket of red paint and a basketball.

Young artist Yi, who prefers to go by the name ‘Red’, posted a video of her creating the astounding artwork on her YouTube channel.
‘Here’s a painting of NBA superstar Yao Ming I did, with some red paint and a basketball!’ she wrote. ‘I guess all those years of basketball training in high school did come in handy!’

The video, which is time-lapsed, shows Yi gently place a basketball in to a tub of red paint before carefully bouncing it on a white canvas on the pavement.
Slowly but surely, the face of the NBA star begins to take shape, and apart from a few moments when she is checking a printed sketch for accuracy, her eyes are always on the ball.

Yi describes herself as an artists who, ‘Loves to paint, but without a paintbrush!’
Born and raised on the Malaysian island of Borneo, she has spent time in Australia and The Netherlands, but has since settled in China.

‘I Moved to Shanghai for work May 2011 and I’m loving this crazy, face-paced city!’ she writes.
The video has already attracted over 271,000 views, and the artist has spoken out on her Facebook page about how flattered she is.

She also revealed she will be premiering her next project next Wednesday.
