A collection of unseen photographs of David Bowie are being shown for the first time in a new exhibition.
The mesmerizing photos, some of which are shown here, come from two separate shoots from 2001 and 2002, and were taken by celebrity photographer Markus Klinko.
They show the icon – who died from cancer earlier this year aged 69 – posing with various props in immaculate suits, with the light catching his stunning heterochromic eyes.

Klinko created the cover of Bowie’s 2002 album Heathen – and many of these shots come from the session which that cover art originated from.

Also featured are photos taken during a shoot for a GQ cover in 2002, showing Bowie posing with wolves.
These are now all on display in an exhibition called Bowie Unseen at Mr MusicHead Gallery in Hollywood, which runs until June 15.

Ahead of the exhibition launch, Klinko said: ‘Working with David was one of the best experiences because he knows exactly what he wants.
‘If he gives you the job it’s because he wants your input. It’s a collaboration in the best sense of the world because he’s someone who is going to railroad you into a corner where you just have to execute his commands.

‘The reason we have so many shots that are unseen is because once we did the cover for Heathen – which took several hours and which he very precisely had mapped out in his head – he then turned very playful and allowed me to have fun.

‘Some of the images I cherish the most are when there’s this element of improvisation. Not since since the death of John Lennon has the death of a music celebrity moved so many millions of people,’ Klinko concluded.

Klinko also shot the music video for Bowie’s 2013 song Valentine’s Day and regularly worked with his wife Iman, including her shoot for an Italian Vanity Fair cover last year.

A portion of proceeds from sales of prints from the Bowie Unseen exhibition will go to Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research.

Since his passing, it has been revealed that Bowie was planning to appear in the Twin Peaks reboot which recently finished shooting, and that he personally requested that his music be used in BBC drama Peaky Blinders.
