Studio Ghibli has announced plans to open a theme park based on its iconic animations in 2020.
The theme park, which is set for construction in Nagoya city, will reportedly be based on the hugely popular 1988 film My Neighbour Totoro – with the development representing the film’s theme of ‘respecting and embracing nature’.
There won’t be rides at the park, according to Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki, but he promises that it will be ‘set in the world of Totoro’.
The announcement comes two years after Japanese Ghibli fan Takumi posted these incredibly detailed plans for a park in Tokyo – and now we’re seriously hoping that the finished article resembles this.
Posting on Twitter, quite a few fans were already planning their trips.
