Ripper Street is known for its gore and intense scenes that are not for the fainthearted, so naturally on the finale of the series people wanted a bit of a happy ending.
But when the season finale did not give fans that, and instead went polar opposite by killing key characters off.
People were confused at the ‘depressing’ ending which left protagonist Mr Reid lonely.
Frustrated fans were everything from upset the series was over to sad that poor Reid was left on his lonesome to being baffled at the storyline of the final episode.
One fan wrote: ‘SO VERY PERPLEXED about the end of #RipperStreet’ while another chimed: ‘Well, the last ever #RipperStreet was a barrel of laughs.’
I have loved #RipperStreet but was disappointed by a very unsatisfactory final ep ever tonight. Anyone else?

Well that was everything I didn’t want it to be, no happy ending, just a heavy heart ð¢ #RipperStreet

Luckily though, not everyone thought the finale was that bad, thanking the cast for a ‘brilliantly acted series,’ one fan tweeted: ‘Thank you #ripperstreet that was an amazingly written, brilliantly acted series. I’m going to miss you! #bbc2.’
