Dermot O’Leary is up there with Ant and Dec and Mary Berry as a household name in the U.K.
But when you’re spending months at a time overseas filming Stranger Things, British popular culture must completely pass you by, as actor Charlie Heaton appeared to have no clue who the NTAs host was.
The 23-year-old Netflix actor appeared on stage at the National Television Awards at London’s O2 on Tuesday night, dishing out the award for Best Drama alongside on-and-off-screen girlfriend Natalia Dyer, 21.
After US actress Natalia introduced the category, Charlie read his autocue – but clearly hadn’t rehearsed reading out Dermot’s name aloud as he pronounced it ‘D’mot’. Oh dear. It made for a very funny moment indeed!
Natalia said: ‘Good evening ladies and gentleman, it is such an honour to be here in the UK presenting the award for Best Drama.’
Charlie added: ‘Yes and hopefully by the time we’ve had a look at the five incredible shows nominated this evening, D’mot will have found his way back here.’
