Gael Monfils insists there was no problem with David Goffin during their French Open third-round tie, after the pair appeared to have a heated discussion on court.
The Frenchman was taken out in a dramatic five-set clash with the Belgian on Saturday afternoon but things got a little bit tetchy as Monfils grew frustrated with the umpire.
At one change of ends, Monfils angrily charged over to Goffin’s chair where the pair spoke in French.
But Monfils played down the conversation and claims he was merely explaining his disagreement with the umpire.
He said after the match: ‘Then, nothing special, talking about the discussion between myself and David. It’s pointless.

‘When we changed side, I said that I took my time because the judge had told me yesterday I take too little time.
‘And then, today, he was telling me I take too much time.
‘And so the way I recover is different. I always have injuries, so I like to rest on my knees so I can recover.
‘But what bothered me is that if I’m told to go faster, I go faster, and then I’m told to go slower.
‘And David told me, I’m sorry. I didn’t know that. But as I told the umpire, I’m friends with David. So I had nothing against David.’
Goffin will go on to face Italy’s Matteo Cecchinato, with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.
