Over the past few decades the Dingles have become one of the foremost families of Emmerdale – and we’re about to get the opportunity to delve into their family tree with a special on ITV tonight.
Emmerdale Family Trees: The Dingles: Older and Wiser takes a nostalgic look back at the clan, with Gaynor Faye narrating this account of the older generation led by Zak Dingle – looking at his scams, antics and of course his seven children.
There has been no shortage of Dingles in the Dales since the mid-90s, with many family members having come and gone in that time.
But just how many Dingles have we seen in Emmerdale?
How many Dingles have there been in Emmerdale?
It’s estimated that over 100 members of the Dingle Family – either direct descendants of the family or those who married a Dingle – have either appeared in Emmerdale since the family made their debut or are known to have existed in the dim and distant past.
The family tree extends all the way back to the 18th Century with Dingle ancestors Abraham, Ebenezer, Jacob, Benediah and Isaac among the earliest Dingle family members.
However the first member of the Dingle clan to actually arrive in the series was Ben Dingle (Steve Fury) who made his debut in the soap on 9 August 1994 – although the first mention of the family had been in May of that year.

Other early arrivals to the Dales included his parents, Zak and Nellie Dingle, and their children Butch, Sam and Tina.
Although the family may be a large one, only a handful of its members have featured in the show in a major way – with current Dingle family members including Charity (Emma Atkins), Cain (Jeff Hordley), Mandy (Lisa Riley), Marlon (Mark Charnock), Chas (Lucy Pargeter), Moira (Natalie J Robb) and Aaron (Danny Miller).
