Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour has revealed his reasons for leaving Stamford Bridge to join Norwich on loan this summer.
The Scottish international was tipped to have a breakthrough season for the Blues this year after several standout performances for his national team during the summer.
But the chance of more regular football at a club which plays the right brand was too appealing to turn down.
‘I had some options but for me Norwich was first choice. I came here, spoke to the boss, and everything he said sounded really good, the way he wants to play, the way he sees me fitting in. That was what made my choice easier to come to Norwich,’ Gilmour told Sky Sports.
‘Norwich play football that suits my style, playing out from the back and wanting to keep the ball. For me, this was the perfect opportunity.

‘This is my kind of style of play where I want to play out, get on the ball and make things happen.’
Gilmour has hailed the work of his new manager Daniel Farke, despite only being at the east-coast club for a matter of weeks.

‘When I was speaking to the boss, he was just saying that he sees me in this position in midfield or he sees me in that position in midfield, it just depends on the formation. He has been really good with me and I am learning under him every day.’
The 20-year-old starred in Scotland’s 0-0 Euro 2020 draw with England at Wembley earlier this year, but then subsequently tested positive for covid-19.
‘It was very difficult,’ Gilmour said.

‘The game itself I enjoyed a lot. I think on another day we could have scored. We had our chances.
‘To wake up and find that I had Covid-19, it was annoying because I felt fine. It was not the best ending to what was meant to be a good summer.’
Gilmour is set to make his Premier League debut for Norwich on Saturday when the Canaries welcome Liverpool to Carrow Road.
