Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi has grandparent-ing down to a fine art as he spends time with baby

Peter Capaldi showed off his parenting skills this week as he stepped out with his daughter and new grandchild.

The actor, 63, was worlds away from Doctor Who as he took on grandad duties single-handedly while his daughter headed off for an appointment.

Peter was seen pushing the little one in a pram before settling down for a cup of coffee at an outdoor table at a cafe with his new grandchild in his arms.

With multitasking skills perfected, Peter was seen sipping his drink with one hand while he held the baby in another, as well as dipping a croissant into the froth as he rocked the stroller back and forth.

The star, who recently appeared in The Suicide Squad as The Thinker, enjoyed the afternoon out in Highgate with the youngest member of the family as he waited for his daughter to return.

Peter recently revealed that he was eager to put Doctor Who behind him for darker roles, such as in The Suicide Squad.

He spent an hour wrangling the new born in its posh buggy. It was clearly hungry work as Peter stopped for a Mars Bar and almost immediately went for coffee and a croissant at a Cafe Nero He struggled and juggled with the tiny bairn whilst trying to scoff down his party and coffee. At one point the child seems to be crying and Peter donned a blanket on his shoulder to keep the dribble off his trendy black blazer. At times it all seemed a bit much for the former Doctor who can handle intergalactic travel in the tardis with aplomb but found a small child a trickier situation At one point the wriggly baby squashed his nose. He tried to calm it down by practising a fist bump with it. Min online set fee: 250 picture by Gavin Rodgers/ Pixel8000

He told Radio Times: ‘I mean, I think with any project that I do, I just try to be faithful to the script. I just don’t think much of it. I try to bring that to life as powerfully as I can.

‘But in a comic-book movie like this, you know, as much as The Thinker is going to dark places, it still is in that kind of graphic-novel kind of world.

‘So it has less of an emotional cost than if you were doing a genuine part – you know, a character who genuinely had conducted experiments like The Thinker had. He remains a comic-book evil genius, and I’m quite happy with that.’

He added: ‘I think post-Doctor Who I’m more like the way I was pre-Doctor Who. The whole Doctor Who thing, you have to sort of become a different person, really, to do that. So it’s a relief to return to who I was before.’
