Who could forget Neil’s hilarious dance moves in The Inbetweeners?
Well, apparently, Blake Harrison wishes people would, as they’ve become the ‘bane of his life.’
Blake, 36, who played Neil Sutherland in the BAFTA-winning comedy, has admitted he can no longer even hit the dance-floor at weddings without becoming the centre of attention.
He used the robotic dance moves, which his character was known for, to pull girls in his younger days but now, people just film him.
He said: ‘I might have got a couple of snogs off the back of a few dance moves in my time.
‘For me, it was always, hit the dance floor as much as possible with good tunes, break out a few decent moves and see if anyone is magnetised to the moves. Then Inbetweeners comes along, I use it, and then I’ve never been able to dance again. It’s the bane of my life.’
The father-of-two said he ‘used to be a right laugh at weddings.’
‘Now whenever I’m at a wedding, if I go even near the dance floor, you see guests pulling their phones out to try and film you. And you’re like, “Ah, I can’t do it now,”’ he joked.
He is, of course, referring to his iconic routine to We No Speak Americano by Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP from the 2011 Inbetweeners Movie.
Fans still love the scene today, and reckon it’s one of the British comedy’s finest moments.
Earlier this month, Blake admitted he is ‘surprised’ people are still watching The Inbetweeners today, unable to comprehend its success.
‘You’d be amazed at how young some kids are when they do watch it,’ he explained, revealing that some parents are allowing their nine year olds to tune in.
‘People come up to me, “He loves the show.” I’m like, “How old is he?”’ “He’s nine,” I’m thinking, “What are you doing? You’re not being a good parent.”’
Series one of the show was filmed in 2007, so Blake says ‘the fact that 14 years later, it’s still being shown and there are still teenagers now watching it and enjoying it’ is ‘really surprising.’
The Inbetweeners originally aired on E4 from 2008-2010, following the misadventures of friends Will McKenzie (played by Simon Bird), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), Jay Cartwright (James Buckley) and loveable Cockney class clown, Neil.
Cast members are set to reunite in November at Comic-Con in Liverpool.
