Loose Women presenter Kéllé Bryan has looked back on being encouraged to lose weight while in the band Eternal after Kim Kardashian revealed she lost weight to fit into her Met Gala gown.
Last night, Kim was one of the many A-listers who descended upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for the fashion spectacle of the year, the theme for which was Gilded Glamour.
The entrepreneur, 41, donned the exact dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962 when she sang Happy Birthday to President John F Kennedy, explaining that the garment couldn’t be altered at all to fit her.
‘I tried it on and it didn’t fit me. I had to lose 16lbs to be able to fit this. It was such a challenge, it was like a role,’ she said at the event, adding: ‘I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.’
On Tuesday’s edition of Loose Women, Ruth Langsford, Katie Piper, Carol McGiffin and Kéllé addressed Kim’s admission, with Kéllé recalling the pressure she was under to be a certain size when she was in the 1990s girl group.
When Ruth asked about whether she had to lose weight for things like photoshoots, Kéllé replied: ‘Yeah, always. Always having to lose weight for the next video.’

The 47-year-old continued: ‘You’d go off to like a health spa and you’d be fed what you’re allowed to eat, given those little portions and you’d have to eat within that. Did it to prepare for videos and things like that.’
Ruth remarked on how she imagined it must have been ‘constant’ for Kéllé, given she and the other members of Eternal would frequently be touring and performing.
‘It’s completely unhealthy. I’m always an advocate for just having a really healthy diet most of the time, that’s what I try to do most of the time is live a healthy lifestyle,’ the Hollyoaks star responded.

‘Go to the gym and stuff, but it’s one of those things that in those days, the culture was very much that you had to be like a size 0 or you had to have a particular body type.’
Katie added that in her opinion, ‘demonising food is unhealthy’, as it results in people associating ‘punishment with food’.
Kim revealed how much protection there was surrounding the historic dress, which had been kept guarded at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum before she wore it to the Met Gala.

‘The dress was transported by guards and I had to wear gloves to try it on,’ she said.
The reality star attended the event with her boyfriend, Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson, who fans believe has had the initials of Kim and her four children tattooed on his jawline.
