Eamonn Holmes will need more time off screens to recover after facing a setback when he fell down the stairs, fracturing his shoulder.
The broadcaster, 62, has been living with chronic back pain but underwent surgery on his spine in recent weeks, in the hopes of easing it so he could get back to a pain-free life.
However, he ended up needing further surgery after an accident at home, meaning it will be longer than planned until he returns to his GB News show.
His representative told the Express: ‘He’s naturally gutted by the setback, but the good news is the surgery on his shoulder went well. He’s now receiving fantastic care and resting.
‘Sadly it means Eamonn is likely to need a longer period off TV than he first thought in order to get himself better and heal.
‘But despite being in an awful lot of pain, he’s remaining positive and is looking forward to doing what he loves most and being back on TV and presenting on GB News just as soon as he can.’
The spokesperson added that Eamonn is grateful for the excellent care he received from the NHS and well-wishes from fans, and is ‘solely’ focusing on resting up and recovering, which he is ‘determined’ to do.
Eamonn had been open about the struggles of living with chronic back pain, which began 18 months before he had his operation at the end of September.
He told the Express at the time: ‘I pray that God will guide my surgeon’s hand this week and help me get back to the man I used to be.
‘The thing is I might have a way out. So many others will never have that hope and that can be the most crushing pain of all.
‘I am hoping that this will be a Back to the Future procedure and that I go back to the way I was 18 months ago.’
Eamonn had updated GB News fans a week after surgery to say it was ‘early days’ and he expected it would be around three weeks before surgeons would know if the operation had been a success or not.

However, at the end of October Eamonn marked the clocks going back an hour by telling his followers: ‘An extra hour in bed? Have it back if it just means an extra hour of Pain. Long night for many of us. #ChronicPain.’
