Selena Gomez has opened up about the emotional impact her documentary had on her, as she looked back at old footage of her life.
The singer, 30, will give fans a ‘uniquely raw and intimate’ look at her mental health journey in her new Apple TV+ documentary, My Mind and Me, which premieres this week.
Selena admitted that watching footage of herself during darker times in her life was difficult for her and she wishes she could ‘hug’ that version of herself.
She told Variety at the premiere of the documentary: ‘Being able to see that version of myself and watching that back broke my heart, to know that I was ever that girl.
‘I just wish I could have hugged that version of myself but I feel like it was important to share it because I did want people to start talking about this.
‘Hopefully, after the pandemic if people are feeling these lonely feelings and not understanding, I just hope it opens people up.’

While the documentary gives fans a no-holds-barred look at Selena’s life, she doesn’t think it will lead to ‘more scrutiny’, having faced so much as a Disney Channel child star and then during her relationship with Justin Bieber,
Selena explained: ‘I think by me being more transparent and honest about what I walked through, there’s nothing that they can say that will honestly affect me. I am who I am and everyone is about to see it.’
The singer and actress hopes that her film will help to open up further conversations about loneliness and mental health.
