Ethan Williams (Matthew James Bailey) will find himself with some competition in Hollyoaks this spring, as newcomer Rafe (Chris Gordon) sets out to win Sienna Blake’s (Anna Passey) affection.
The reformed gangster with a heart-of-gold, as viewers know, is head over heels for Sienna, with the two having embarked on a very serious relationship late last year, much to the delight of fans.
Rafe, however, rocks up in the coming weeks, well and truly setting the cat among the pigeons, with his imminent arrival having already left fans worried for the future of Sienna and Ethan’s romance, with the show’s new spring trailerhaving teased heartbreak.
Metro.co.uk, who confirmed the news of Rafe’s arrival, was as equally horrified at the prospect of our beloved Ethan having his heart broken once again, and therefore we exclusively caught up with actor Matthew James Bailey, who plays Ethan, and he offered us some insight into what’s ahead.
‘Ethan is secure in his relationship with Sienna,’ he said. ‘He knows it’s strong and, no matter what obstacles get thrown at them – and they’ll always find a way back to each other, regardless of what happens.
‘I think Ethan is going to be on his guard [after Rafe shows up] – and I think that’s all I can really say right now!,’ he laughed, before adding that his character ‘should be worried for a little bit.’

Consider us very intrigued.
Matthew was also quick to reassure fans that there will be more antics for the couple, known as Ethenna, in the coming weeks and months.
‘There’s been a running theme of Ethan and Sienna dressing up in silly costumes, and you’re going to see a lot more of that,’ the soap star teased, and we’re excited already.

Do you want to see Ethan and Sienna stay together?
-
Yes - they belong together and no-one should tear them apart*cries in Ethenna*
-
No - they should split
‘There are also some fantastic scenes on-location as well, some really big scenes coming up for the pair, and you’re going to see their relationship develop a hell of a lot more in some really beautiful ways. Hopefully the fans will love it!’
What the future holds for Sienna and Ethan remains to be seen, but Matthew assured us that he isn’t planning on going anywhere, revealing that he can see himself sticking on Hollyoaks around for a ‘long time’.
The best news.
‘I feel so welcomed here and appreciated every single day,’ he told us. ‘I don’t think I’ll ever lose that magic.

‘Playing a character that I absolutely put my heart and soul into it every single time I appear on screen. I do it for the fans, I do it myself and I do it for everyone.
‘I just want to make the best character for the fans to get behind and support, and I feel so, so supported by the fans – and by yourself.’
We love him.
‘It’s just an incredible feeling,’ he concluded. ‘I am a full Ethan stan myself!’
