Excitement is mounting as the UK prepares to host this year’s Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine, with the event taking place in Liverpool on May 13.
And the exhiliration is even extending to Ambridge, as The Archers gets set to welcome a very special visitor.
The village’s variety show will have a guest judge this year, as none other than Rylan Clark arrives to help with the judging in the episode that will be aired on May 12, the day before the final.
The Archers is the world’s longest-running soap, having first been broadcast in 1951 as ‘an everyday story of country folk’ and now billed as ‘a contemporary drama in a rural setting.’
It’s set in the fictional village of Ambridge in the fictional county of Borsetshire. Real-life events are often written into the script, with references to the death of the Queen and the World Trade Centre attacks being among the subjects that have been written into the show.

The show has also tackled themes such as drug addiction, rape in marriage and family breakups, while also making time for everyday concerns such as the possible closure of the village shop and someone losing their glasses.
With the broadcast of the Eurovision final set to take 50% of the audience share during its broadcast, clearly it would be odd if at least some of the folks of Ambridge weren’t gripped by Eurovision fever.

As a massive Eurovision fan himself and co-presenter of the semi-finals broadcast along with Scott Mills, Rylan’s name is well known to Eurovision fans so his presence will cause a huge stir in the otherwise sleepy village and we can expect some fun to ensue.
