Since Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) returned to Coronation Street recently, things between her and Max Turner (Paddy Bever) have been a little complicated.
Lauren initially wanted Max to lend his support to her father Reece (Scott Anson), currently in prison for far right crimes. She also tried to make a move on Max, clearly still with feelings for him despite him insisting that he’s moved on with new girlfriend Sabrina (Luana Santos).
Max still wanted to remain friends with Lauren but told her that if she continued to support her dad she’d be on her own as far as he was concerned.
In upcoming episodes we discover that although Lauren is refusing to take phone calls from her dad, she hasn’t put him out of her mind. In fact Max is shocked when Lauren tells him that she misses her dad.
Cait Fitton told us that the relationship between Lauren and Reece is complex and she feels her character was just as much a victim of far-right grooming by the gang that Reece was part of as Max was.
‘I think she’s inherited her dad’s beliefs and opinions, and she’s never been able to make her own choices and have her own decisions and make her own ideas of things,’ she said. ‘I think parents play such a big role within a child’s life that if you’re constantly surrounded by hate, do you know any different? That’s her normal, so what she’s been brought up around, when people say that’s not right, she’s confused because that’s all she’s known.’

Understandably Max is shaken by the idea that Lauren could possibly be drawn back to these views if she has anything to do with Reece.
Meanwhile Shona (Julia Goulding) decides to help Lauren out by offering her a job at the cafe, and Lauren is pleased when Roy (David Neilson) makes the job permanent.

But with Lauren now apparently a fixture on the Street, Max is even more worried about her attachment to Reece. And things only get more complicated when Sabrina tells him that as long as Lauren is in his life, she’s not interested in a relationship with him.
