Actress Samantha Giles is best known to Emmerdale fans as the eccentric Bernice Blackstock, but as the star heads out of the Dales, she has announced her next role.
Bernice’s exit storyline saw her wrack up huge debts in sister Nicola King’s (Nicola Wheeler) name, before agreeing to give her half of the B&B and leaving the village for good.
Speaking about where she wants her career to go from here, Samantha said:
‘I’d love just to be working on a variety of things really, theatre, tv, my books. I’m someone who needs to be challenged and I love being busy, so fingers crossed the universe will send me stuff and send me places where I need to be…’
And it seems the universe has done just that, as Samantha will be taking to the stage in a production of Kay Mellor’s final play The Syndicate.
The story follows five supermarket employees whose lottery syndicate numbers come in, just as their jobs and livelihoods are under threat.
The Syndicate was a hit TV series that followed the lives of ordinary people who entered lottery-winning syndicates, and the drama that then followed.
Now, it has been adapted for the stage, where Samantha will be taking on the role of kind-hearted worker Debbie.
She is not the only soap star who will be appearing, as she will be joined by former Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent.
Brooke played Sophie Webster on the ITV soap from 2004 until 2019, when she left to go on maternity leave.
Brooke will be taking on the role of Amy in the new play, which is directed by former Emmerdale star Gaynor Faye, who played Megan Macey.
