Elf is now one of the most popular Christmas films of modern times, even if Will Ferrell thought it might have spelt the end of his career.
The festive flick sees the Anchorman actor transform into Buddy the Elf, a human who was raised among elves in the North Pole under the watchful eyes of Santa himself.
When Buddy discovers he is not an elf, he travels to find his father in New York City while learning to adapt to life as a human.
It became an instant classic, inspiring the 2010 Broadway musical Elf: The Musical and NBC’s 2014 stop-motion animated television special Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas.
The beloved Christmas film is a staple on many people’s festive watchlists, so you may be wondering how you can watch Buddy’s capers in 2023.

What to watch on Netflix this Christmas
If you want a Christmassy serving of Will Ferrell but can’t find Elf, you can also watch Spirited, his comical take on A Christmas Carol with Ryan Reynolds.

Spirited is streaming exclusively on Apple TV, and acts as a modern retelling of Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol where the Ghost of Christmas Present is nearing retirement, which means he must return to Earth.
The film also stars Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Marlow Barkley, and Tracy Morgan.
