Viewers have been left totally hooked by a new TV show based on a best-selling novel that’s produced by Oprah Winfrey.
The eight-part miniseries Black Cake is set to hit screens in the UK at the end of this month, with the trailer dropping this week.
An adaptation of Charmaine Wilkerson’s 2022 novel of the same name, the series is a family drama wrapped in a murder mystery that spans decades and is set across Jamaica, Italy, Scotland, England, Wales and Southern California.
It all begins in the late 1960s, when a runaway bride named Covey disappears into the surf off the coast of Jamaica and is feared drowned or a fugitive on the run for her husband’s murder.
In present day California, a widow named Eleanor Bennett, loses her battle with cancer, leaving her two estranged children, Byron and Benny, a flash drive that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America. ,
These stories, narrated by Eleanor, shock her children and challenge everything they thought they knew about their family’s origin.

It stars Mia Isaac, Adrienne Warren, Chipo Chung, Ashley Thomas, Lashay Anderson, Faith Alabi and Glynn Turman.
The trailer for the series has now been released by Disney Plus, with the episodes to hit screens in two weeks’ time.
Since being released in the US, audiences there have already raved about how obsessed they’ve become with the show.
Sharing their thoughts on social media, many said they didn’t expect how much they’d become invested.

’Okay so I started watching Black Cake today. My entire agenda for the day was thrown off. I had to literally pry myself from the TV,’ Vance Gamble posted on X.
‘Black Cake had me in a chokehold. I was drinking and pausing and like heeeeeelllllooooo. It just continues to keep you on the edge,’ user Empress Da Ruler shared.
‘Black Cake one of the best shows I seen in a long time’ Fetti wrote.
Many others said they were hooked.

However, user Joe said he was ‘destroyed’ after tuning in.

The series, also from The Handmaid’s Tale producer Marissa Jo Cerar, has picked up an 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes already.
Before the novel was even published, after a bidding war, the TV rights were purchased by Oprah’s production company, Harpo Films.
