A recent episode of Radio 4 drama The Archers has aired scenes involving a dog attack on iconic character Kenton Archer (Richard Attlee) – a UK soap first.
The instalment, which was broadcast on January 30, began with Mia (Molly Pipe) stressing over the upcoming fashion show.
Mia clashed with Susan (Charlotte Martin) when she implied that Neil (Brian Hewlett) wouldn’t be suitable as her male senior model, but thankfully luck was on her side when Kenton stepped in and agreed to be the replacement instead.
At The Bull, while clearing up at the end of the night, Jolene (Buffy Davis) noticed a group of men with vehicles in the carpark. She expressed her concerns to Kenton, who said he spotted them earlier but assumed they had taken a wrong turn.
As Jolene’s worry increased, Kenton headed outside and told the men they couldn’t stay there.
The situation seriously escalated, as a large dog broke loose and brutally attacked him in terrifying scenes that left listeners stunned.
Jolene returned and found Kenton on the floor, in pain and covered in blood.
With the men doing a runner, a desperate and distraught Jolene called an ambulance and pleaded for help to quickly arrive.

While the breed of dog within this storyline is currently unknown, dog attacks have been discussed in the news a lot as of late, following the XL Bully breed being added to the list of dangerous dogs in England and Wales.
On December 31 it became illegal to breed, sell, advertise, rehome, abandon, or allow an XL Bully dog to stray. All XL Bullies must be muzzled and on a lead in public.
Last year, prime minister Rishi Sunak called the breed a ‘danger to communities’ after Ian Price was killed by two of the dogs while protecting his elderly mum.
