Netflix viewers have been left an ‘emotional wreck’ after watching the newly released One Day.
Based on David Nicholl’s 2009 novel of the same name, One Day tells the decades-spanning love story of protagonists Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley as they reunite on the same day every year.
The novel was adapted into the 2011 feature film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, with the series now starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod.
Despite only being released days ago, countless people had already raced through the 14 episodes in just one day.
However, many have been left with ‘irreparable emotional damage’ after doing so.

‘Netflix will pay for its crimes! Making me believe in love and then rip out my heart afterwards. Anyways go watch One Day now streaming on Netflix and become the emotional wreck I am now after finishing the last episode,’ Sharronda Williams posted on X.

With many people knowing how it ends, they went into it prepared, however were quite nervous about how they’d be by the final episode.
‘Someone spoil this for me please, b/c if it ends the same way the Anne Hathaway movie ended I’m DEFINITELY not watching it. I don’t need that emotional trauma again,’ Kate commented.
‘One episode in and loving the Netflix adaptation of One Day. Just not sure I can go through the emotional rollercoaster which is to come!’ Rachel Mackie added.

For those who went in blind, they then quickly issued warnings to others.
‘Guys, don’t watch One Day on Netflix if you want to have a happy life (the show will cause you irreparable emotional damage),’ Pau posted.
‘Just finished the series One Day and I have never been more emotionally distraught. I have not read the book and, shockingly, have never seen the 2011 film adaptation, so I was completely unprepared. Tears are a flowing,’ Beth Torres Ruiz admitted.
Em simply said the series had her ‘ugly crying on a Thursday’.

Earlier this week Ambika explained why she turned down an audition for the role ‘over and over again’.
Speaking ahead of the show’s release she explained how she fell in love with the novel when reading it as a 14-year-old in 2009, but she immediately said no when asked to audition.

‘I saw the email notification pop up on my phone: “Emma, One Day, self-tape” and I was like “Nah I’m not doing that”,’ she told Grazia.

‘I turned the audition down again and again over several months. I love the book so much and I just didn’t see myself playing that part. I thought it was a waste of time.
‘I envisaged the disappointment I would experience if I entertained this idea.’
However, after realising she had made a ‘terrible mistake’, she decided to audition and eventually secured the role.
