Former Coronation Street star Katy Cavanagh has made a surprising career move – and it’s worlds away from Weatherfield.
The actress, 50, played Julie Carp in the ITV soap for seven years but departed for pastures new in 2015.
Julie was introduced as Kirk Sutherland’s (Andy Whyment) holiday romance, but it later transpired that she was the half-sister of Street stalwart Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).
She later formed a relationship with Brian Packham (Peter Gunn), and the two left the cobbles together.
The character has been mentioned on occasions since, and several pictures of her still appear in No. 11, home of the Grimshaw’s.
Since then, Katy has gone on to star in comedies Birds of a Feather and Not Going Out, plus in a number of theatre productions.

Her son Noah Jupe has followed in her footsteps, but despite only being 19 has been tipped as one of Hollywood’s emerging new talents.
His roles include A Quiet Place and its sequel alongside Emily Blunt and The Undoing with Nicole Kidman.
As a result of his success, Noah has teamed up with Katy and his father Chris to launch their own production company, with his mum putting pen to paper as a screenwriter.
In a recent interview with Variety, he spoke of their new partnership: ‘It’s always been a dream of my parents, my mum was an actress for a while, my dad was a producer, been an AD, been on a film set his whole life, so we’re a very film family.

‘We’re very savvy in terms of the industry. It was very helpful with me working as a kid because my parents would be on set and they know what they were doing, and they’d know about all the different intricacies of being on set.
‘My dad’s got a very producer head, very smart, very logistical, my mum’s very creative. It’s a very good balance of all the things.’
Despite leaving Coronation Street almost ten years ago, fans are still hopeful she’ll return one day.
One viewer recently voted her 16th in his run down of every single regular character on the long-running soap, which prompted a number of enthusiastic responses.
‘Much-missed slightly kooky knicker stitcher. A natural fit for Corrie. Miraculously survived being introduced as a girlfriend for Kirk. Loved her idiosyncratic dress sense. My most wished-for returnee’ they said.
‘Julie was fabulous!! Would LOVE a return!’ added another.

There was also excitement at potentially seeing her arrive in Classic Coronation Street, which airs weekdays on ITV3: ‘Good actress and fun character. I think she might have been yet another of those characters who was seen as “comic” and got frequently relegated to a lesser role than she deserved.
