Warning: spoilers ahead for Bridgerton season 3 part 1.
Bridgerton fans have finally had the chance to watch season 3 part 1 – and the first half of the season has already left swooning viewers in a fluster.
In the last few moments of the finale, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) are alone in a carriage having a heated exchange… when Colin finally confesses he’s developed romantic feelings for his friend.
The pair begin to kiss passionately, things steam up even further… and then the episode ends on a tantalising cliffhanger ahead of season 3 part 2, which Metro.co.uk had to ask Nicola and Luke about when we had the chance to speak to them.
After we remarked how agonising the end of the episode is – when Colin says as he departs the carriage: ‘For god’s sake Penelope Featherington, are you going to marry me or not?’ – Nicola teased: ‘You’ve not even seen it all yet girl.’

Given how much passion is bursting out of the screen between Penelope and Colin following years of friendship, the former Derry Girls star revealed that part two surpassed even her expectations.

‘Those episodes that follow… they surpass my expectations. I got sent them last week. I was in New York doing press for Big Mood and I couldn’t watch them because I was so busy. So I was like, “Luke, just tell me what you think, just say what it is,”’ Nicola, 37, shared.
Luke, 31, then chimed in to add: ‘I was texting her like, “Have you watched it? Have you watched it?”
Nicola continued: ‘There’s more famous scenes from the books in there as well. But… you’re in for a treat. Sorry for the wait, but it’ll be worth it.’
The Colin actor then outlined why the season being split into two parts is especially symbolic of their characters’ relationship.

‘I feel like the term “part two” is very appropriate, because it’s like part two of their journey as well,’ he stated.
Not only was the carriage scene in season three sizzling to say the least, but it was something that people who’ve read the books had been eagerly waiting for.
A fan called Emily wrote excitedly on X: ‘That carriage scene was exactly how it should have been heck yes!!!’
‘The carriage scene. That’s it. That’s the tweet,’ Rachel remarked, while Jess said that she found it ‘so beautifully done’ and ‘full of pure want and emotion’.
One X user called @anidalarots said that they found the carriage scene ‘better than they’d hoped’ after reading the book on which the season is based, Romancing Mister Bridgerton.
‘The carriage scene was so much better than I hoped. Ahhh I paused it like 100 times.THE CHEMISTRY! It’s so sweet and sexy,’ they said.
User @twizzlytee also said: ‘First kiss & carriage scene 10/10. Couldn’t have written it any better myself.’

Penelope and Colin share their first kiss earlier in the season, when she asks him to kiss her as a gesture from a friend, as she’s afraid she’ll never experience romance in her life.
