In recent Coronation Street episodes, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has raised questions after having secret conversations with someone on her laptop – and tonight’s (June 7) episode finally revealed the heartbreaking truth about who was on the other side of the screen.
When Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) got up in the early hours of the morning to find Leanne telling the person on the laptop that she loved them, she grew instantly suspicious and questioned if it was Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper).
Leanne met Rowan at a meeting for The Institute several months ago, and was instantly won over by his charm. It didn’t take long for her to join The Institute herself, much to Toyah’s horror, who could see the group for what it really was: A cult.
Though Leanne vehemently denied speaking to Rowan on her laptop, Toyah was still suspicious, and soon confided what she’d seen in Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

When Nick went to question Leanne about it, the truth left him even more shocked.
As Leanne turned her laptop screen around, Nick came face to face with an AI recreation of her son Oliver.
Leanne was left heartbroken in 2020 when Oliver tragically passed away at just three years old, after being diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease.

During some of her sessions with Rowan at The Institute, she opened up about her grief, unaware that he was recording everything she said.
Though Leanne was clearly overjoyed to be able to talk to Oliver again, both Nick and Toyah were concerned that Rowan and The Institute were taking advantage of her vulnerabilities – and Toyah made sure to tell him that.
In a confrontation outside Roy’s Rolls, Toyah warned Rowan that she was prepared to go to the police and the press about The Institute’s shady tactics to exploit money out of its members, but Rowan made it clear that doing so could result in a hefty cost. Toyah, however, was undettered.

Unfortunately, things took a shocking turn when Toyah was later arrested for murder, with police having found Rose’s body in the park.
In recent scenes, Toyah revealed that she had given birth to a stillborn daughter in secret following her rape ordeal in 2001, before burying her in the park.

After being released pending further enquiries, Toyah was left horrified when Leanne suggested that she had brought this on herself, and soon began to suspect that it had been her own sister who had called the police.
