EastEnders has shed more light on Nicola Mitchell’s (Laura Doddington) estrangement from her family following her bombshell arrival in Walford.
The character made her debut on the BBC soap on Monday, just as her son Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) was being arrested on suspicion he was involved in the disappearance of ex-girlfriend Shireen.
Until now, fans had been led to believe she had been spending recent months in Bali, following her split from husband Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian).
However, this was revealed to be a lie in scenes that aired on Tuesday, as Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) was hit with the truth.
The latest episode saw Nicola provide Harry with a false alibi for the night of Shireen’s disappearance, leading to him being released.
Back at home, it became clear there was much more to Shireen’s disappearance, with the family all hiding a big secret.
As such. Nicola insisted she would be sticking around in Walford, which irked ex-husband Teddy.
As a blazing row erupted, Teddy sought to hurt her by revealing to Barney that his mum had not been in Bali – she’d actually been in prison.
It turned out she’d been handed jail time for ABH after giving out unlicenced fillers that left a client with medical complications.
But the revelations did not end there.
Barney was then left reeling when Harry informed his younger brother that the real reason their mum ‘walked out’ was because Teddy found out she’d been stealing money from him.

With her relationship with her kids left in tatters, Nicola then agreed to leave the Square.
However, we already know that she’ll soon have a change of heart, as spoilers for the rest of the week have revealed she soon sets her sights on buying Peggy’s nightclub from under Teddy…
