The Witcher fandom was shaken to its core when it was announced that Henry Cavill had officially stepped down from the lead role as Geralt of Rivia.
However, the actor has now given a major update on his next venture – and it sounds like people should be very, very, very excited.
In October 2022, it was confirmed that Henry, 41, was set to be replaced by Liam Hemsworth, 34, in the Netflix fantasy series, with the former saying in a statement: ‘I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,’ before wishing his successor luck in the role.
In May this year, the Hunger Games star was seen in full costume for the first time while on set filming the fourth season in his brand new lead role as the monster hunter… while elsewhere, Henry is busy setting up a brand new cinematic universe around one of his biggest passions: Warhammer.
In December two years ago, Henry announced that after 30 years, he was finally going to make his dream of creating a live-action Warhammer franchise into a reality.

‘After 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life,’ he said at the time, revealing that the franchise had found its ‘home’ at Amazon.

And now, Henry has given a tantalising update about what’s to come.
Sharing a new Instagram post on December 10, he wrote in his caption: ‘To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years ago….the Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!’
Alongside the black-and-white photo of him outside of the shop, he continued: ‘My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world.
‘Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts.
‘Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though—more to come in time!’
We can’t wait to find out more!

Over on the Warhammer Community website, further information was revealed, with the announcement that Games Workshop and Amazon Studios ‘have finalised their deal’ and are ‘all set to bring Warhammer to the screen’.
Shedding further light on what this means, the announcement continued: ‘Well, it means we now have synopsis and ordering for the stories we’re going to tell… yep, we said stories!

‘It might have taken a year but it was a year well spent! And what fun – sifting through the enormity of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, debating characters, story arcs and the thematic grit that underpins it all.’
However, there’s still going to be some time to wait until Warhammer is brought to live-action, as it outlined: ‘When will the first project hit screens? It’ll be some years. Project One* is about to go into development proper. So, next up is the script/s that will form the basis of everything else to come.’
While many fans were sad to see Henry leave The Witcher, it’s certain the excitement levels for his Warhammer venture is going to be off the charts.
