Actress Jane Hazlegrove has shared a sweet throwback snap to her first Coronation Street role, over three decades before she first appeared as Bernie Winter.
Jane, 56, joined the ITV soap as the mother of Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul (Peter Ash) in 2019.
The star has had quite a busy few months on the cobbles – in the wake of Paul’s death to motor neurone disease – having clashed with his husband Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) over the funeral plans.
Prior to joining the show, she appeared for a decade as regular character Dixie Dixon in BBC medical drama Casualty, and has a string of other soap roles under her belt from The Bill to Heartbeat.
However, Corrie fans may be surprised to learn that Jane also played another character on the long-running soap.
This makes her the only actor in the show’s 64 year history to have portrayed two regular characters, and one of only seven actors who have played a regular character in the show and then returned as a separate Weatherfield resident in a guest stint.
Recently, Jane wrote on Instagram: ‘Sweet sixteen.. Coronation Street in 1985, Sue Clayton and her big sister Andrea played by the brilliant Caroline ONeil. Cheers Corrie.., bought my driving lessons with this gig!’

Sue Clayton appeared for just seven months in 1985. Last year, in a chat with Metro, Jane reminisced on her time.
‘When I left the show, they gave me a massive card which everybody had signed – including all the legends,’ she recalled.
‘Barbara Knox had written: “Good luck Jane. Remember, rovers always return.” It turned out she was right.’
When Bill Webster (Peter Armitage) and daughter Debbie (Sue Devaney) moved to Southampton, No. 11 Coronation Street went up for sale and the Clayton family moved in.
The clan, formed of teenager Sue, her older sister Andrea (Caroline O’Neill) and their parents Harry (Johnny Leeze) and Connie (Susan Brown), were introduced to strengthen a dwindling cast number but failed to take off with the audience.
