Every Christmas Day, Kate Middleton gifts us with another fashion moment, and this year is no different.
As is tradition, the Royal Family gathered together for the church service at St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, Norfolk.
Kate opted for an elegant ensemble, wearing a long green Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coat, in a dark forest green hue. Alexander McQueen is a favourite of the Princess’, who regularly wears the designer’s pieces for big occasions.
It’s likely that the green colour is bespoke, although a camel version of the coat has previously been available for £2990. Kate accessorised the look with a tartan scarf and heeled black boots, but it’s her choice of hat – a beret by Gina Foster – that has royal watchers talking.

The hat has been a long-time staple in her wardrobe. Kate previously wore it at a St Patrick’s Day parade in 2014.
But body language expert Judi James says Kate’s decision to wear the hat at the end of a challenging year for the Royal Family, following her and King Charles’s cancer diagnoses, revealed the Princess’s true feelings about returning to the spotlight this Christmas.
Judi told the Mirror: ‘Kate’s small beret allowed a full view of her face, which in turn showed off that authentic, congruent, dimpled smile rather than her perfect royal version.’
Judi added that Kate’s eye contact with well-wishers and her ‘energetic pace’ as she walked hand in hand with her youngest child, Prince Louis, showed how proud she was to be out with her family again.

The 42-year-old was accompanied at the church by Prince William, and their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, six.

As well as her immediate family, Kate joined other senior royals for the service. King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Beatrice, Prince Edward and wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and others were also in attendance.

Kate has been attending the Christmas Day church service every year since she got married in 2011.
She’s worn a variety of stylish looks, often opting for seasonal jewel tones like a Hobbs burgundy coat in 2016, and a deep blue Alexander McQueen coat in 2023.

The Princess also often favours tartan, sporting the pattern on various occasions. Perhaps the most memorable was her Mui Mui coat worn in 2017, while pregnant with Prince Louis.
It’s been a challenging year for the Royal Family, as both Kate Middleton and King Charles faced cancer battles.

Kate shocked the public in March 2024, when she revealed she was undergoing cancer treatment.

She scaled back Royal duties, only appearing in public on a handful of occasions, including Trooping the Colour in June, and the men’s Wimbledon final in July.
But in September 2024, the world was delighted to learn that Kate had completed her treatment.
In a poignant video message she thanked her fans for their support, adding: ‘Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus.
‘Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.’
