The Masked Singer is back on our screens, which means living rooms are abuzz each weekend with theories and outlandish celebrity predictions.
Since the ITV reality show premiered in 2020, several notable names have appeared in the most extravagant costumes, with last year’s winner being McFly’s Danny Jones, dressed as Piranha.
This time around, performing under disguises are characters such as Teeth, Dressed Crab, Tattoo, Kingfisher, and Spag Bol.
Another star who has everyone flummoxed is Snail, with judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, and newbie Maya Jama struggling to decipher their posh accent and cryptic clues.
Here’s everything we know about Snail so far.

What clues are there for Snail’s identity?
- ‘Dearest gentle Masked Singer viewers…’ – is there a chance they starred in Bridgerton?
- A baby doll was shown in a basket, and Snail was then seen wearing a pin that read ‘Welcome home’ – could they have welcomed a child recently?
- ‘Are you wondering what scandalous secrets I might reveal?’ –following in the footsteps of Lady Whistledown, they could be a modern-day gossip columnist
- Snail was shown holding up a tie and boater hat – are they known for being quite posh?
- ‘Snails might not be speedy, but that doesn’t stop us making our mark at home and further afield’ – has Snail made it big in another country?
- Another shot showed them holding two rings
- Riddle: ‘I can look rather fancy here standing in lace, but sometimes in my mind, it can be up in space’
- ‘I hope you take a chance on this Snail’ and ‘I really don’t want the competition to slip through my fingers’ both seem to be clues of Abba songs
- ‘You might think I cannot hide my true identity from you, but there is a lot a snail can keep secret with this shell’
- Said they have been ‘schooled’ by the best – were they in a TV show about education?
- A parka jacket appeared in a VT
- Also a pair of wings with the tag ‘return 20-20’
- Said they hope to bring ‘class and elegance’ to the show
- ‘This snail gets invited to the very best parties of the season… including royal celebrations’
- Only one of these newspaper headlines is factual—’City hosts snail victory parade’ or, ‘Snail casts spell over San Francisco’
- Described a ‘balancing act’ while ‘treading wooden boards’ – someone with a circus or stage background, perhaps?
- A VT showed a bucket of peaches at the bottom of a stone staircase
- Clue song: Hold On by Wilson Phillips
- ‘I can be taller in more ways’
Who could Snail on The Masked Singer be?
Jane McDonald

After making reference to ‘treading wooden boards,’ Jane McDonald emerged as a popular guess for Snail.
‘One of the first clues they said “a wooden board.” Where else can you find a wooden board? On a ship. Not any type of ship, I’m talking a cruise,’ speculated Mo.
‘Where do you find snails? You find them on a farm. Old McDonald has a farm,’ he continued. ‘So who likes cruises?’
Who else likes cruises more than travel documentarian Jane McDonald – even fronting one of her own with this year’s Cruise With Jane McDonald.
‘It’s Jane McDonald, everyone,’ said Mo, triumphantly.
Ruth Langsford

‘There was a quote you said which said “a name close to home,” said Maya, after picking up on a clue in Snail’s VT.
‘So what do we have in our homes? A roof. Who is the nation’s favourite “roof?” she finished, eliciting a gasp from Mo.
Who else but this Morning and Loose Women star Ruth Langsford, perhaps?
Andrea Corr

With Snail referencing Duncan from Blue, viewers were convinced that this was a sneaky wink to The Corrs’ album Blue.
As a result, fans of the show believe Andrea Corr is behind the mask. The Irish musician debuted in 1990 as the lead singer of the Celtic folk rock and pop group The Corrs, along with her three elder siblings.
‘Hold on being the first line of the chorus for ‘Breathless’…..it’s definitely Andrea Corr,’ said louweeks7.
‘Nah andrea corr, the duncan james clue gave it away i used to have their album years ago into the blue,’ wrote jodie79135138.
‘Snail sounds like Andrea Corr,’ said SparkleL43363.
Emma Willis

The baby and wedding rings set Davina McCall off to believe the person behind Snail was Love is Blind host Emma Willis.
She also pointed out that some lace seen in the VT could be linked to how the fellow TV presenter had also recently released a lingerie line.
Emma Bunton

Guest judge Sir Mo Farah believed Snail’s first solid performance was an indicator the celebrity had plenty of experience.
He guessed Baby Spice Emma Bunton was behind the mask, who definitely has the pipes to put on an epic show.
Jennie Bond

After declaring Snail was ‘so fancy and so posh,’ Maya Jama shared her guess that Snail was none other than Jennie Bond.
Jennie was the BBC’s royal correspondent for over a decade, which means she has certainly been invited to some high-profile events.
Amber Davies

Also thinking Snail could be a reality TV star, Mo Gilligan speculated it could be former Love Island star Amber Davies.
Since leaving the villa, she has gone on to become a sought-after West End star.
She’s also starred in Dancing On Ice and hosts her own podcast about theatre.
Dame Mary Berry

Known for his rogue guesses in the past, Jonathan Ross thinks a Bake Off star might be the famous face behind the costume after cakes and pastries were shown.
At first, he couldn’t quite decide which – either Dame Mary Berry or Dame Prue Leith – but with Dame Prue later unmasked as Pegasus, does this mean Dame Mary is behind the singing snail after all?
Nadine Coyle

After Nicola Roberts won the first series of The Masked Singer UK, has bandmate Nadine Coyle followed in her footsteps?
Jonathan suggested several clues pointed in the direction of the girl group, including a tag with the date ‘2002’ written on it.
That year, Girls Aloud was formed on Popstars: The Rivals, which Davina actually hosted.
What’s more, some embroidery in a clue package said, ‘Je t’aime.’ Girls Aloud famously released a hit single in 2007 titled Can’t Speak French.
Adding to the list of Girls Aloud Easter Eggs, Snail mentioned being ‘schooled.’ Also in 2007, the five-piece appeared in the comedy/musical movie St. Trinian’s.
Amanda Seyfried

Davina believes actress Amanda Seyfried is behind Snail’s mask.
She picked up on the ‘schooling’ reference, which she took as a nod to Amanda’s starring role in drama miniseries The Dropout.
Amanda also played Karen in Mean Girls, set in a high school.
And there certainly isn’t any denying that she can sing, as she’s proven on multiple occasions as Sophie in Mamma Mia! This could even explain the references to Abba songs Take a Chance on Me and Slipping Through My Fingers.
Leona Lewis

Guest judge and Olympian Tom Daley believes X Factor icon Leona Lewis is the singing songstress behind Snail’s gorgeous costume.
Her clue about brushing shoulders with royalty could be a reference to Leona’s past performances at the Royal Variety Show.
We all know Leona has the pipes to potentially be a Masked Singer champion. She rose to fame when she won The X Factor under Simon Cowell’s mentorship in 2006.
Kim Wilde

Viewers have thrown Kim Wilde’s name into the mix.
The English pop star debuted in 1981 with the smash hit Kids in America, which rocketed up the charts and earned her a Brit Award.
Patsyanns wrote on X defiantly: ‘Snail is Kim Wilde’.
User joseroque900 added: ‘Thinking Kim Wilde for Snail’.
Heidi Range

Jonathan reckons Heidi Range could be behind Snail’s mask based off one telling clue.
More Trending
During a VT, the character said they can be ‘taller in more ways’.
This is also the name of an album released by the Sugababes in 2005, which included their hits Push The Button, Ugly, and Red Dress.
However, viewers also think this was an Andrea Corr clue, as, in 2007, she released an album titled Ten Feet High.
