A man in his 30s has died after a five-car crash on the A5 in Shropshire.
The main route between Shrewsbury and Telford is expected to be closed until tomorrow following a collision involving a lorry and four cars at 7am.
One man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the crash. Four people were injured.
An ambulance spokesperson said: ‘When ambulance crews arrived on the A5 they found bystanders and fire colleagues administering CPR to a passenger from one car.
‘The team of ambulance staff quickly commenced advanced life support on the man but sadly he couldn’t be saved and was confirmed dead a short time later.

‘A second man, a passenger, from the same car was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
‘The driver and a third passenger from the same car were assessed for minor injuries before being taken to Princess Royal Hospital as a precaution.
‘The driver of a second car, a man, suffered potentially serious injuries in the collision and he received treatment by ambulance staff before they conveyed him to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for onward care.’
Earlier the M20 was closed due to a jack-knifed lorry blocking three lanes after a crash in Kent in the early hours of this morning. The motorway has since reopened.

M1 delays ‘in excess of 30 minutes’ following incident

Drivers trying to use the M1 southbound face delays of over an hour resulting from an incident earlier this afternoon.
The motorway has been closed since around 2.20pm in between Junction 4 in Elstree and Junction 5 in Watford.
Closures are also in place at Bucknalls Lane and diversions are in place.
Hertfordshire Police has not yet confirmed the nature of the incident but warned motorists to ‘avoid the area’.
M1 closed in both directions
National Highways have warned drivers to expect delays following an incident on the M1.
The motorway has been closed in both directions between Junction 4 near Elstree and Junction 5 near Watford, with police in attendance.
A303 closed following crash involving lorry
A stretch of the A303 has been closed in both directions in response to a collision involving a lorry.
The road is closed between the M3 near Basingstoke and the A34 near Bullington.
National Highways says the closure is expected to continue for a significant time.
Police and paramedics have been dispatched to the scene of the incident, which happened around 2.30pm on the westbound lane near Micheldever Station.

Faulty level crossing causes 30-minute delays in Hampshire and Wiltshire
Trains must run through Romsey at reduced speeds due to a fault at a level crossing.
Services face delays of up to 30 minutes until 5pm as a result.
Affected services are:
- Great Western Railway between Portsmouth Harbour and Salisbury
- South Western Railway between Romsey and Salisbury
Signalling fault causes 45-minute delays between London Liverpool Street and Ipswich
A fault with a signalling system at Ipswich means trains must run at reduced speeds through the station.
This is causing delays of up to 45 minutes on the following Greater Anglia services between:
- London Liverpool Street and Ipswich / Norwich
- Felixstowe / Cambridge and Ipswich
- Ipswich and Lowestoft / Peterborough
Disruption is expected to continue until 4.15pm.
Disruption between London Kings Cross and Cambridge after passenger taken ill
A passenger fell ill on a train at Welwyn Garden city this morning.
Great Northern trains will not call at this station while running between London Kings Cross and Letchworth Garden City / Cambridge as a result.
Disruption is expected to continue until 2pm.
Woman arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly at Liverpool Airport
Two passengers were allegedly verbally aggressive to Border Force officers while passing passport control at Liverpool Airport around 10.40pm on Saturday.
Police today said a 49-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.
In a statement, police said: ‘While being taken into custody it was reported that homophobic comments were made, and she was further arrested on suspicion of two counts of using threatening/abusive/ insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress.
‘She has been released under investigation pending further enquires being carried out.’
Five-car crash closes A5 causing hour-long delays
A crash involving a lorry and four cars has closed the A5 between Shrewsbury and Telford, in Shropshire, since around 7am today.
Several people were treated at the scene, the ambulance service said.
It’s causing hour-long delays, with disruption expected to continue until around 2am tomorrow.
Train fault causes delays on entire c2c network
A fault on a train between Barking and Upminster is causing delays of up to 35 minutes on c2c services. This is expected to last until 12.45pm.
But the disruption isn’t just limited to one part of London. It’s causing delays of up to 20 minutes on the entire c2c network, from London Fenchurch Street to Southend Central / Shoeburyness.

M20 reopens after lorry crash
The M20 has reopened several hours earlier than expected after a lorry crashed into a bridge in Kent.
Jack-knifed after the collision, it had blocked all three eastbound lanes between Maidstone and Ashford.
Severe delays on London Underground
A fire alert at Willesden Green and Canary Wharf is causing severe delays on the Jubilee line.
There are also severe delays on London Tramlink due to a broken down bus blocking the track at Lebanon Road earlier today.
A points failure is causing minor delays on the Victoria London Underground line.
Meanwhile, the Piccadilly line is still closed between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge, with minor delays on the rest of the line, as it has been for weeks as a result of ‘damage caused by leaf fall’.
Points failure causes disruption between Basingstoke and Winchester
South Western Railway services running between Basingstoke and Winchester in the Eastleigh direction face disruption today.
This is due to a points failure causing delays and cancellations.
Disruption is expected to continue until 4pm.
Lorry jack-knifed after M20 crash

The lorry involved in a crash on the M20 is jack-knifed after it collided with a bridge between Maidstone and Ashford, in Kent.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision, National Highways said.
It’ll take specialist equipment to move the jackknifed lorry and clear the rubble.
This means this section of motorway between J8 and J9 is expected to stay closed until 3pm.
Car crash on the M20 causing delays
A lorry has crashed into a bridge leading to long delays on the M20.
National Highways said the M20 eastbound/coastbound, in Kent, between J8 (Hollingbourne) and J9 (Ashford) is facing delays after the collision.
Kent Police are at scene, as are National Highways Traffic Officers who are assisting with traffic management.
They are advising vehicles to follow this diversion:
- Exit the M20 at J8 and take the third exit at the roundabout and at the next roundabout take the first exit on to the A20
- Remain on the A20 until the junction with Fougeres Way where it will will turn northwards towards J9 of the M20 and rejoin the M20 eastbound at J9.
Major disruption closes all train lines between London Waterloo and Southampton Central
A person has been struck by a train between Haslemere and Havant, closing all lines between London Waterloo and Havant, Portsmouth Harbour, Fareham and Southampton Central.
Trains have been cancelled, with others seeing delays of up to an hour.
The disruption is expected to last until noon.
Elizabeth Line sees minor delays
Commuters on the Elizabeth Line are reporting minor delays between Abbey Wood and Paddington.
TfL have said this is due to an earlier faulty train at Whitechapel – but service is good on the rest of the line.
‘Substantial spillage’ shuts down portion of M61
Drivers have been told to expect delays after an earlier crash caused ‘substantial’ spillage on the southbound carriageway near Bolton this morning.
Two of three lanes are shut between Westhoughton and Kearsley, with a National Highways North West spokesperson saying ’emergency resurfacing’ of the carriageway was required.
Delays of up to 30 minutes are being reported.
Pedestrian dies after lorry crash on M6

A pedestrian died after sustaining horrific injuries in a lorry crash on the M6 yesterday around 3 pm.
An air ambulance took the man to hospital as the motorway was closed for more than seven hours between Standish and Leyland.
All lines blocked at Leamington Spa
Chiltern Railways passengers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes between London Marylebone, Stratford-upon-Avon, Birmingham Moor Street, Birmingham Snow Hill and Stourbridge Junction.
Delays are also being reported between Banbury, Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham Snow Hill.
CrossCountry is experiencing delays between Bournemouth, Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly; along with Southampton Central, Reading and Manchester Picadilly.
West Midlands Railway is seeing delays between Leamington Spa and Worcester Shrub Hill.
The disruptions are expected to last until around 9 am due to a fault with the signalling system.
