Just under a month after it broke TV viewing records, another programme has unseated Gavin and Stacey as the most watched one ever.
Over Christmas, viewers were treated to a string of specials, including the final ever episode of the BBC sitcom.
The day after it aired, it was announced the show had broken its own record and had become the most watched Christmas TV show in over a decade, with 12.3million people tuning on Christmas day.
In the weeks since Gavin and Stacey has continued attracting viewers, with 20.9 million now having tuned in.
But despite these jaw-dropping numbers, another programme that aired on Christmas has overtaken James Corden and Ruth Jones’ comedy series.
Airing a few hours earlier on Christmas Day, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl managed to attract an impressive 9.38 million viewers, making it the second most- watched programme that day.
But a month later, the comedy claymation film has overtaken Gavin and Stacey and reached 21.6 million people.
The BBC has said these Christmas Day figures haven’t been seen in 20 years, which also makes both programmes the UK’s biggest scripted and animated shows since modern records began in 2002.
‘These figures exceed all expectations, to reach over 20 million is an astonishing milestone in 2025. These two quintessentially British shows couldn’t be more different but what unites them is their undeniable quality and the fact they are best in class,’ BBC’s chief content officer Charlotte Moore said.
‘I am in awe of the creative genius that is Aardman, Nick Park, Merlin Crossingham, Ruth Jones and James Corden and I’m very proud of the long-standing relationship we have with them. It’s been a privilege to support their exceptional creative talents over decades.’

Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park and Vengeance Most Fowl’s director Merlin Crossingham said they were ‘truly honoured and utterly gobsmacked by these fantastic viewing figures’.
This week the film was also announced as one of the nominees for best animated feature film at the upcoming Golden Globe awards.
Nick has also previously said this would not be the final Wallace and Gromit film and that there was ‘always ideas worth kicking about’.
