Darren Bent has poured cold water on the idea of Harry Kane joining Arsenal but believes his potential defection wouldn’t prove as controversial as Sol Campbell’s infamous move across north London.
The England captain joined Bayern Munich 18 months ago and has cemented his reputation as one of European football’s greatest goalscorers.
Two more penalties in Friday’s 3-0 win over Werder Bremen took Kane’s tally for the current season to 28 goals in as many games in all competitions.
While there has been no suggestion of the 31-year-old itching for a move back to England, news that his current contract contains a release clause has sparked speculation that a Premier League comeback could be on the cards.
Manchester United have long been credited with an interest in the Spurs legend, while Arsenal’s desperation for a new striker led club legend Paul Merson to suggest Mikel Arteta should spent a hefty chunk of his summer budget on Kane.

Bent, an Arsenal fan who scored 18 Premier League goals for Spurs, doesn’t believe Kane would ever cross the north London divide but claimed Campbell’s infamous move will never be surpassed in terms of shock value and controversy.
‘If Man Utd are sniffing around Harry Kane others must be,’ Bent told talkSPORT. ‘I’d take him in a heartbeat.
‘I don’t know if it would (be a bigger shock than Sol Campbell).
‘I think the Sol one is bigger. Harry Kane one of Spurs’ greatest ever players and goalscorer.
‘I think he’s one of their best ever, England captain, his stats speak for themselves, 213 Premier League goals.
‘But, there has been Bayern Munich in-between. Sol Campbell at the time was one of the best defenders in the country, he came out and said I’m not leaving. And then went to Arsenal their rivals for nothing.
‘Harry Kane never once came out and said I’m staying. Bayern remember paid £100 million for him.
‘I don’t think he would either but my point is I don’t think that would be bigger than Sol Campbell.
‘No I don’t think he would. I would love to see. That guy guarantee you goals.’
