Come Dine With Me fans are uncovering one of the Channel 4 show’s behind-the-scenes secrets 20 years after it first aired.
The cooking programme has become a British on-screen staple, delivering TV gold moments from ‘What a sad little life Jane’ through to the much memed ‘Whisk Guy.’
But for some, there are still mysteries to uncover, including the identity of Come Dine With Me’s iconic narrator, whose witty remarks have become a trademark of the show.
On TikTok, the programme’s account released an exclusive day in the lifeclip of narrator Dave Lamb, 56, in the studio recording his lines – and fans were shocked he wasn’t comedian Harry Hill.
In the comments, Abdiman was among those stating: ‘I thought the voice on Come Dine With Me was Harry Hill😭.’
Echoing his sentiment, Will said: ‘I thought Harry Hill was the voice?’
Others aware Dave was the narrator admitted they had no idea what he looked like until the TikTok.
Charlie said: ‘Heard this voice since I was about 5 and never knew this is what he looked like 🥺.’
Ohrs added: ‘It’s nice to see the face to the voice finally. and isn’t his voice the Aldi voice too xx.’
Claire: commented ‘Feels illegal to see this 👌😆.’
Many TikTok users also said they only watched the show to tune into Dave’s commentary.

Deb wrote: ‘Ahh what would this programme be without this man’s amazingly distinctive voice 😌.’
Agreeing, PennyGraham08 shared: ‘He’s the reason I watch I love his comments.’
To the surprise of some fans, in the clip, Dave revealed that he records his lines while Come Dine With Me plays. He uses a script and waits for a cue.
Kilowhisky remarked: ‘I’m surprised you have to actually wait for your lines to come up against the real time of the show, I would have thought you just record the snippets you need to and they match it up.’

Dave has been the narrator of Come Dine With Me since its inception in 2005 – his breakthrough role.
