With the world possibly on the brink of World War Three, France has made a timely decision to issue survival manuals to its residents.
The 20-page manual will contain 63 measures on how the French can protect themselves from armed conflict, natural disasters, industrial accidents and nuclear leaks.
It also includes the essentials needed in these scenarios like six litres of water, canned food, batteries, a torch, paracetamol and bandages.
But the French government insists it is not being released because of the looming threat of Vladimir Putin.
Instead, it says the manual has been in the works since 2022, after the Covid 19 pandemic, to prepare the country for a similar type of scenario.
The General Secretariat for Defence and National Security (SGDSN), which is behind the creation of the manual, said it will help people face ‘all types of crises’.
However, it offers advice about what to do in a nuclear attack (advising citizens to lock their doors) and tells them the best way to join local defence forces if an attack is imminent.
French newspaper Le Figaro reported the release could suggest France is ‘reacting to the unstable international situation’.

President Emmanuel Macron has also stepped up his rhetoric in recent weeks about the ongoing threat of Russia to Europe.
He also confirmed that French fighter jets would be sent to the German border to renew the country’s airborne nuclear deterrent.
Like the UK, France has also increased its defence spending, increasing to 3-3.5% of economic output from the current 2%.

Earlier this month, Macron called for a ‘united Europe’ to stand up to Russian aggression by spending billions more on defence.
In a television address, he said the world was entering a ‘new era’ and a ‘global conflict’ was already underway.

Mr Macron suggested the French Army would lead the defence of the continent, adding: ‘We have the most effective army in the whole of Europe, and nuclear capacity. We have been developing our army since the Second World War.
‘Our nuclear deterrent protects us: it’s complete, sovereign, French through and through. But, responding to the historic call of the future German Chancellor, I have decided to open the strategic debate on the protection of our allies on the European continent through our (nuclear) deterrence.’
