Burgundy has been the colour of the season, whether its clothing, footwear or beauty, in the form of black cherry-themed cosmetics, but the trend is not going anywhere any time soon.
In fact, burgundy is filling our wardrobes beyond handbags, shoes and other easy to style accessories, and we’re not mad about it.
A quick scroll on Instagram and my feed is filled with content creators styling burgundy bomber jackets with wide leg jeans, a white top, and Addias trainers.
Designer label, Acne Studios, may be to blame for this trend. When the luxury fashion launched its Coated Bomber Coat in the oxblood colourway it was a sell-out success, and has been seen everywhere. But it comes with a steep price tag, so we are on the hunt for more affordable alternatives.

When we think of bomber jackets we typically think of the Steve McQueen-inspired, oversize khaki green collarless short jacket. Over the years, other colourways have been added into the mix, such as black, or neutral stone shades, but now there’s a new colour on the block.

Burgundy bombers can be styled the exact same way as the classic variations we have worn for years on rotation. Pair with jeans, a satin slip skirt, or maxi denim skirt, a t-shirt, even with a knitted roll neck jumper, it’s an ultra versatile jacket.

What I love about a bomber jacket is it provides a more relaxed finish to a trench coat, pea coat, and is a welcome alternative to the trusted leather biker jacket. Plus, it offers the same warmth and comfort we turn to with our trusted winter parkas. Though a bomber jacket is not to be confused with a short boxy fit jacket, or a harrington.
Plus, the cherry on top is the deep plum, red wine or burgundy colourway is a simple way to spice up the simplest of outfits and inject a pop of colour in an otherwise basic look.
From high street to more premium brands, we have whittled down our favourite burgundy bombers to shop now.

Oversized Collar Faux Leather Puffer Coat
The Oversized Collar Faux Leather Puffer Coat is one we would most liken to Acne Studios’ creation, but for less. This coat is a hybrid between a puffer coat and bomber jacket. This statement design features a glossy burgundy faux leather finish, an oversized collar, and quilted padding for insulation and drama. The padded collar extends down the body, so it almost resembles a wrap coat, or scarf, but we love the 3D textured detail.
