Didi Hamann has urged Liverpool to consider parting ways with Darwin Nunez this summer to help them land one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards.
Nunez has registered just five Premier League goals this season and has struggled to pin down a regular starting berth in Arne Slot’s side.
It was hoped that the Uruguayan, signed from Benfica for £85million in June 2022, would prove a long-term replacement for Roberto Firmino.
But after three up-and-down years at Anfield, Nunez now appears likely to leave the club this summer as the Reds look to reinvest in their forward line.
And former Liverpool midfielder Hamann reckons the club should consider using Nunez to help them sign Borussia Dortmund forward Jamie Gittens.

Gittens, 20, has caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs with his largely impressive form for Bundesliga side Dortmund.
The former Manchester City academy graduate is now said to be keen on the next step in his career, though, having slipped down Niko Kovac’s pecking order in recent months.

‘One option that could work is Jamie Gittens and Darwin Nunez in a swap deal between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund,’ Hamann told InstantCasino.
‘Gittens started the season on fire and was almost carrying the team for the first three months of the season.
‘Since the new manager arrived he has found things a bit hard and not started many games, because the new manager is looking for the hardest workers.

‘He needed time to adapt but came off the bench and scored on Saturday, hopefully he will have an impact in the Champions League. But I would say that Gittens and Nunez in a swap deal is not that far-fetched.’
Gittens was valued at €100m just a few months ago as Dortmund sought to fend off interest in the England Under-21 international during the January transfer window.
But the club are now expected to revise that figure downwards given his change in circumstance and desire to leave the club in the summer.

At present, Liverpool, Chelsea and United are said to be front of the queue to sign Gittens, but former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel reckons that Arsenal may well win the race for the talented youngster.
‘I think there’s a good chance we could see Jamie Gittens playing in the Premier League next season,’ Babbel told Wette.de.
‘They will have to sell some players this summer and Gittens is the player they’ll be able to sell for the most money – so a move would make sense for all parties.
‘Given his qualities, he’ll be wanting to play in the Champions League next year which is why Arsenal will have a massive chance of signing him in the summer. He’d be a brilliant addition to Mikel Arteta’s team.’
