A terrified couple 'feared they were goners' after a mysterious passenger started FIVE fires on their flight home from Australia - after being allowed to STAY ON the plane by airport security. Gillian and Paul Mason, from Blackburn, Lancs, were 'seconds away from death' after a pyro passenger ignited the toilets twice on-board the Etihad Airways plane, going from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi. Crew members desperately battled to put out the blaze 35,000ft above the earth as the captain made an emergency diversion to Jakarta, Indonesia. Terrified passengers pleaded to get off the plane, but after a one-hour security check by airport authorities the journey resumed - only for THREE MORE fires to be started. Crew members told petrified passengers Gillian, 60, and Paul, 61, the jet was just 90 seconds away from bursting into flames and crashing into the Pacific Ocean. Gillian described the terrifying ordeal as 'the worst experience of her life' and said she was stunned they were allowed to carry on flying after the spate of fires. see copy
