Desperate times call for desperate measures. And any sleep-deprived parent will tell you they are desperate for sleep indeed. One mom from Pasco, Wash., decided to write her kids a note in an attempt to get some extra zzzz. Samantha Manville said that she and her husband aren't night owls, but on Friday night they found themselves awake at 2 a.m. Their kids -- Alexia, 10 and Liam, 8 -- usually rise at 7 a.m., so the parents put their heads together to come up with the note that might get them a little more shut eye. The note specifically instructs their children "do not knock and wake up before 10 a.m. unless there is a real EMERGENCY!" Manville said she and her husband tried to anticipate what would keep the kids at bay. "We brainstormed trying to figure out what questions would they have," Manville said. "What would make them knock on the door?"

Parents leave amazing note so kids let them sleep - and it worked

PICTURED: Marcin Zendarski with the plant When it comes to making a hash of it Polish prisoner Marcin Zendarski really knows how to mess up a good thing. Despite being jailed in an Austrian prison life was not so bad after he managed to smuggle in an illegal smartphone, and used it to get access to the Internet not only to watch TV and use the Internet, but also to keep in touch with pals via social networking sites including Facebook. And life got even better when he managed to get himself cannabis seeds which he was able to grow into plants to keep a constant supply of hash to make life inside Garsten jail in Upper Austria more bearable. But the good life ended for the dozy convict when he decided to place the pictures of the plant, taken inside the prison, on his Facebook page to show how clever he was to friends. The pictures quickly went viral on the website where a short while later they came to the attention of prison officials who called in extra officers to search the entire jail for the illegal plants and mobile phones. And as well as the Polish prisoners illegal cannabis plantation and telephones, they confiscated five other illegal mobile phones and various other illegal substances and objects. According to insiders he is now on special watch after getting threats from other prisoners who lost their illegal possessions in the raid. The also ended up with a fine for having the illegal telephone and an additional sentence is now expected for having the drugs." Two days later jail officials were further embarrassed when convicts at another prison using an illegal smartphone were able to video and upload footage of an illegal boxing match staged inside a prison bathroom. Austrian Politician Christian Lausch from the opposition Freedom party said: "Drugs, illegal telephones and gambling on staged fights, how much more out of control can Austrian prisons get? It shows that something urgent needs to happen to put things back on track."
