A member of staff holds up a "Guinness Ration Card" behind the bar inside The Old Ivy House public house in Clerkenwell, London on December 15, 2024. At her London pub, landlady Kate Davidson has taken to issuing Guinness ration cards, but still the beer has run out amid a UK shortage of Ireland's national drink. Bars across Britain, even Irish ones, have reported limited supplies of the black stuff since Guinness owner Diageo announced earlier this month that it was experiencing "exceptional consumer demand". Geert Rooijakkers' bar at his house. See SWNS story SWSMpub. A Guinness lover will be spending St Patrick's Day knocking back pints of his favourite drink in his own private Irish pub - in his garden. Geert Rooijakkers, 53, has spent more than ?7,000 in building and decorating his backyard boozer with Irish-themed memorabilia. He paid ?3,500 (?3,058) for the extension on his house in Meijel, Netherlands, three years ago. And he's forked out ?5,000 (?4,369) to kit it out with Guinness and Irish paraphernalia and convert into a pub called The Wrinkled Prince after his beloved Shar Pei.
