FILE PICTURE - Long Lartin Prison. Lags at a max-security prison are throwing POO out of windows - because of two-hour queue to use the toilets. See SWNS story SWLAGS. Inmates at HMP Long Lartin, near Evesham, Worcs, are also being forced to use makeshift potties because of a lack of WCs. The Category A men's prison has housed a number of high-profile inmates including radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza and serial killer Christopher Halliwell. Inspectors told how ageing facilities meant that more than half of inmates had no access to a toilet in their cell. Cells are electronically unlocked during the night so prisoners can relieve themselves.

"I've wanted to quit but I always wanted someone to care about me enough for me to want to quit. My mother was never there. My dad was never there. I just didn't care. I've always wanted to die. And this time I have my boyfriend and that's why I feel like whenever I get out of this place this time I feel like there's hope for me." (AP Photo/David Goldman)
