Story from Jam Press (Los Angeles Chainsaw Chopper) Pictured: One of the trees Samuel Patrick Groft chopped down. Man with chainsaw arrested for bizarre TREE-killing spree A man has been arrested after allegedly going on a chainsaw rampage and chopping down several trees. Samuel Patrick Groft was arrested on Monday (22 April), following the destruction of trees in several areas. The 40-year-old was apprehended at 4:30 pm after being accused of felony vandalism. An alert had been issued by the local police about the man?s alleged activities ahead of his arrest, urging the public to "use caution and do not approach?, as reported by NeedToKnow. Goft?s bail was set at 50,000, online records revealed. He was arrested following the discovery of evidence connecting him to the destruction of trees on April 17, 18, 19 and 22 at various times of the day, including 12 am and 2 pm. Trees had been chopped down in downtown Los Angeles, the Westlake District, and Glassell Park. Los Angeles Police Department commander Lilian Carranza said, "I have never seen anyone go and attack trees, especially around the time of Earth Day. ?Everybody wanted to know who did it and why. ?We know who. ?The why will be part of the investigation.? Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass described the spree as ?truly incomprehensible?. She said in a statement: "City public works crews are assessing the damage, and we will be making plans to quickly replace these damaged trees. "LAPD has opened an investigation into what happened, and those responsible must be held accountable." Authorities are now seeking further information from ?additional victims? as they believe the suspect may be responsible for additional unreported crimes. ENDS
